Good writing but an improbable plot.

From a 90-pound weakling to a superhero overnight. It’s a comic book premise, but the author makes it work. The writing is crisp, no wordiness. It’s easy to read. I like this concept of Vega inside Chris. What a novel idea. The story starts around a mad bomber, and I thought the book would be about Chris pursuing and stopping the bomber. I felt that the story was beginning to develop, and a third of the way through the book, Chris stops the bomber and sets out on a Quixotic quest to a foreign land to fight against injustice. It’s like two different stories, and the author didn’t bother with a wrap-up or complete resolution of the first story before jumping into the second.Good writing, but an improbable plot. What does not work for me is this shy, withdrawn kid deciding to go to the Middle East to fight in a war he knew nothing about. I found it implausible.

Engaging Sci-Fi Adventure

The story moves at a great pace and is genuinely entertaining. Kris Chambers, the main character, is easy to connect with, and the sci-fi elements feel really natural in the world Marc Stapleton has created. I was especially intrigued by the use of nanotechnology by such a young character, which resonated with me since it also plays a key role in my own book, "El Ladrón de Magia," featuring a young protagonist. The approach here is completely different, making the read even more fascinating. Overall, it's an engaging and well-crafted book; I’ll definitely be checking out the next installment!

It's a fast-paced read

This novel offers a modern take on the superhero origin story, blending familiar tropes with a compelling sci-fi premise. The transformation of Kris Chambers from a listless young man with a faulty heart into a nanomachine-powered hero is the story's core. The introduction of the AI companion, Vega, provides a classic mechanism for exposition and guidance, while the hunt for the terrorist known as the Quiet One drives the action-forward plot. The narrative effectively balances high-octane, continent-spanning fight scenes with the protagonist's internal struggle to understand his new identity and the mysterious source of his power. It's a fast-paced read that poses intriguing questions about destiny and purpose, making it a solid entry for fans of science fiction and action thrillers.
