About the Book

Winner of the IRDA Book Awards "Honestly, one of the best book series I have ever read! ... It has actually blown my mind." Proto wakes up in the misty halls of the palace of Somnus, the Lord of Dreams. Why is he there? Who knows? But as long as he’s there, he’s been given a job—to visit sleeping people’s dreams and try to make sure they turn out properly. As a dream visitor, Proto fails, makes a fool of himself, and—against all odds—makes friends too. And maybe more than friends . . . ?

It’s hard to tell. There’s something off in how people here are looking at him. There’s something he’s not understanding. And there are other things none of them understand—for instance, the ominous reddening of the skies and streaking lights that keep appearing in the dreams they visit. What’s coming for them? What’s coming for the world?

A philosophical fantasy with a dreamlike atmosphere

An unusual, immersive story where reality and dreams blend. The writing is light and slightly ironic, yet reflective, about choice, perception, and the search for self. Proto feels deeply human, and Somnus’ Palace itself reads like a metaphor for the inner world. The book feels like a lucid dream: strange, beautiful, and a bit melancholic, one you don’t want to wake up from.

A Dreamlike, Witty, and Emotionally Resonant Fantasy

Somnus’ lolPalace is a rare gem that blends humor, heart, and high-concept fantasy into a dazzling journey through the dreamscape. C.V. Vobh has crafted a world as surreal as it is strangely familiar—a place where dreams are not just stories, but moral battlegrounds where human choices take shape. The protagonist, Proto, is immediately likable in his confused, sarcastic, and deeply human way. Watching him stumble through dream logic while trying to "fix" people's subconscious is hilarious and touching. The character dynamics—especially with Astrid and Lilac—are rich, witty, and carry an undercurrent of emotional growth that sneaks up on you. What truly sets this book apart is its tone. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet it says something important about regret, healing, and identity. One moment you're laughing at an absurd dream scenario; the next, you're reflecting on your own choices. The pacing is brisk, the dialogue crackles with personality, and the final chapters hint at deeper stakes and mysteries still to come. It’s whimsical and thought-provoking in equal measure—perfect for fans of Good Omens, Inside Out, or The Sandman with a romantic twist.Highly recommended for anyone who loves clever world-building, dream logic done right, and protagonists who grow not by fighting monsters, but by understanding people.

Great journey

I absolutely loved Proto's journey through the strange and beautiful dreamworld of Somnus. It’s funny, heartfelt, and surprisingly emotional. Proto is awkward but lovable, and watching him grow through each dream mission was such a joy.
