Fascinating and Fun Facts for All Ages

The product details on the Amazon book page recommend Did You Know That?: A Compendium of Real, Unusual Trivia and Astonishing Facts from History, Science, and Pop Culture for ages 12–18. But it’s great for all ages, from my 10-year-old grandson to his grandpa and beyond. We’ve all stepped outside after a summer rain and smelled the pleasant-smelling scent. But what causes it? We now know it’s geosmin, a compound released by bacteria when raindrops hit the ground. Who knew? Not me.When the rain stops, the sun comes back out. I know that the sun is huge. But now I know it accounts for 99.8% of the mass of our solar system. And I also know that the sun only appears yellow because of our atmosphere. It is actually white.I thought the retractable awnings were a modern invention for sports stadiums that protect spectators from the sun and rain. Little did I know that the Roman Colosseum had one that was operated by sailors who maneuvered ropes and poles to deploy a gigantic canvas roof.Myth or not, as a coffee lover, I’ll forever be grateful for the Ethiopian goat herder who noticed his goats becoming super energetic after eating berries from a certain bush. Thanks, Kaldi! I think I’ll brew another pot before I read the book again. There is so much fascinating stuff in here!

Fun fact that actually surprise you

I honestly didn’t expect to learn so many random, but fascinating things from one book. Each fact is short and straight to the point which makes it really easy to read. It is interesting enough to make you stop and think .I like that makes history, science and Pop culture even with food topics. It doesn’t feel repetitive and there’s always something new. Whether you are reading a lone or sharing facts with family, it is a fun conversation starter.

Who doesn't love trivia?

I love trivia - and the author does not disappoint! Did You Know That is not a long read - I finished it in perhaps an hour - so it's a good, easy read and perfect for a Sunday morning. There are multiple sections which cover many different topics, such as psychology, weird laws, artists, and science. There were no topics that were boring (to me, anyway) and are broad enough to be interesting to most anyone. I highly recommend!
