Dark Psychological Dystopia (The 1/2986 Dystopian Series Book 1)
by Annelie Wendeberg
About the Book
I've reached my expiration date. Not that it matters. We're all going to die. To Mickaela Capra, all words have flavours. Each emotion burns so fierce she carves them into her skin. The night she decides to press the blade deep enough, a stranger offers her a different kind of ending. One that makes her question everything she’s learned about the apocalypse. But truth comes with a price. Two rules carved in bone: Kill. Survive. Because the final wars were never meant to end.
---- A haunting exploration of trauma and survival, for readers of Emily St. John Mandel's Station Eleven, Cormac McCarthy's The Road, and Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam.

Warning: Contains themes of recovery from trauma following emotional and physical abuse, violence, neglect, and other content which may be triggering to some readers. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Such an enticing, chilling, marvellous story, with a unique, fierce leading character. I fell in love with the story within a few sentences. 11/10. Absolutely amazing!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The story moves, the written structure is excellent, the verbal and inner dialogue are very real, and the portrayal of emotion, conflict, attachment, love and hate that are normally pretty hard to pull off are done with mastery. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing series! I had 3 sleepless nights because I just could not put this, or the other books in the series, down until they were read from the title page to references! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was so brilliant!
If I mix a bit of The Hunger Games, Helix, and The Walking Dead (minus the zombies) together I can only approximate how amazing this book is. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ WOW!! Incredible!! Visceral!! One of the best books I've read in the genre. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The strong female character is extremely rare and fresh. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Probably the best tale I have read in months. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hands down, one of the best post-apocalyptic books I have ever read.

Gripping and fiercely emotional
Fab book. This story hooked me right away with its dark future and a heroine who feels achingly real. Micka’s struggles with survival, trust, and identity make every chapter hit hard and keep you curious about what waits for her next. The world is frightening but believable... and the tension never lets up! I liked how the book blends action with deep character moments, showing how far someone might go just to stay alive. A powerful start to a series that leaves you eager for more. Can't wait for the next one!
Gripping and Intense
I didn't expect this story to hit so hard. The writing is raw and powerful, and Mickaela is a character that stays with you long after you close the book. It's dark, emotional, and impossible to put down - one of the best dystopian reads I've come across in a while.
If you like dystopian stories with a psychological twist, this one is worth reading.
This book pulled me in right from the start. It’s dark, intense, and full of emotion. The story shows how cruel society can be and how people fight to survive in a broken world. The main character feels real and easy to connect with. It’s not an easy read — some scenes are heavy — but it’s powerful and thought-provoking.
