Interesting and useful!

I found this book to be a helpful introduction to the mental side of sports for kids. As a parent, I appreciated how clearly it explained concepts like grit, resilience, and focus, without being too technical. The exercises were straightforward and practical, I could see how a few of them could easily be integrated into my child's routine. That said, some sections felt a little repetitive, and I would have liked more depth or real-life examples to show how these tools work in actual sports settings. Still, it’s a solid resource if you're just starting to explore how mindset affects performance and want to support your child beyond physical training.

Seems more about developing the person not the player

As a parent and coach, I found Mental Toughness for Young Athletes to be an insightful and practical guide that goes far beyond the typical sports motivation book. JR Davies did a great job breaking down complex psychological principles into easy-to-follow chapters, making them approachable for both kids and the adults guiding them. The real standout for me was the emphasis on journaling, goal setting, and emotional regulation—tools that help young athletes build confidence from the inside out - yes we have all heard the benefits, but how many actually do it?What I especially appreciated was the book’s holistic view: it ties in body language, self-talk, resilience, nutrition, and even the influence of team culture. It’s not just about winning( which is always nice); it’s about building character & culture of the player & team. One suggestion for improvement? I’d love to see more real-life stories or case studies of young athletes applying these tools. A few personal examples would help bring the strategies to life and show kids what this looks like in action vs a "sounds good in theory".Still, this book is a strong foundation for any young athlete—or their parent or coach—looking to build not just champions, but confident, resilient young adults.

Thank you for your experience

With the help of the book Mental Toughness for Young Athletes, maybe it is possible to grow and motivate athletes, but probably only Olympic ones. Guys who have been training for 3-4 years need simpler methods of motivation. In general, the book is so-so. But thank you for your experience
