by R R Smith
About the Book
In 1930s America, Mina Albers's life takes a tragic turn when the state sends her and her siblings to an orphanage after her father's death as her mother was unable to care for them all. Desperate to escape, Mina flees and finds refuge with Robert Ryder, a man who would become her protector and, eventually, her greatest ally. As Mina begins to piece her life back together, with Ryder's help, she reunites with her sisters. The bond between Mina and Ryder grows into something deeper than either of them expected.
When Ryder proposes a new life in London, Mina, her sisters, and Flora-her troubled elder sister-embark on a journey across the ocean, only to find themselves entangled in a web of tension, desire, and danger. In the shadow of Nazi Germany, working with Ryder's friend Richard Welles, Mina and Ryder take on daring assignments, risking their lives to gather German intel, save Jewish families, and smuggle infants and children to safety.

Gripping and Full of Twists
This book pulled me in right from the start. The story is suspenseful and keeps you guessing, with just enough twists to stay interesting without feeling confusing. The pacing is solid, and the characters feel real and well-developed. Definitely a page-turner if you enjoy a good mystery or thriller.
I liked the slow development
I didn’t expect was how personal the story would feel. From the beginning, Mina’s situation pulled me in, and the part where she and her siblings are sent to an orphanage after their father dies was honestly hard to read, but in a good way. It made the story feel real right away. I liked that the danger feels realistic, especially with the tension around Nazi Germany and the risk involved in helping people escape. Those sections made the story more intense, but it still kept the focus on the characters and their choices.
Gripping and emotional story
This book was a truly engaging and emotional read from beginning to end. The story is well-written, with a strong sense of tension and depth that keeps you hooked. The characters are compelling and feel very real, and the author does a great job of building atmosphere and suspense. I especially appreciated the themes of courage and resilience woven throughout the narrative. It’s a story that stays with you even after you finish it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys gripping and thought-provoking fiction
