Ecoscaping for the Busy Professional
A Time and Money Saving Guide to Native Plant Gardening
by Mr Timothy E Simmons Jr
About the Book
This book aims to save you money and time on something you love – native plant gardening, also known as ecoscaping! The author combines his knowledge as a natural resource professional with best practices for native plant gardening, managing wildlife damage, shady areas, how to utilize various property sizes, and more. The idea behind ecoscaping is to increase biodiversity on your property while beautifying your space.
How nice would it be to wake up in the morning, go out to your patio with your cup of coffee or tea, and hear your water feature softly gurgling and the birds singing? You look out into your yard as the sun is rising to see beautiful flowers, trees, and shrubs. Off to the side is a rabbit munching on some clover. A mother bird flies by with a caterpillar in her mouth to feed her babies living in the nest box you installed. Butterflies start their day feeding on your flowers.

it’s a really encouraging and practical guide
I found the “right plant, right place” idea especially helpful because it changed how I think about what I should be planting instead of just trying to force a traditional lawn setup. It also made me realize how much time and money gets wasted on maintenance that isn’t really necessary.
Finally, a yard that doesn't feel like a second job!
I’ll be honest: I love the idea of a "nature retreat" backyard, but I barely have time to do my laundry, let alone spend 10 hours a week pruning roses. Most gardening books feel like they’re written for retirees with infinite free time. This one is different.
A guide that actually works
I really wanted to see more monarchs and bees in my garden this year, and this book showed me the exact flowers I needed to plant. It’s amazing how quickly the local wildlife shows up once you give them the right food and a place to hide. I loved the description of the mother bird feeding her babies in a nest box. It makes you feel like you are doing something really good for the world right in your own backyard. It’s a very inspiring and simple guide for any nature lover.
